i was on my way home tonight after the usual office grind. the green bus arrived and i worked my way in, being careful not to spill the mango-banana fruit shake on my hand. it seemed like an uneventful ride, until somewhere near pasig a handful passengers drew our attention to the smoke seeping into the bus. the bus was literally fuming!
it smelt of burning rubber and you could see the gray mist looming over the back end of the bus. suddenly, panic gripped the group. most us were scrambling to get our asses out of the bus, which could potentially become a death chamber.
the kids began to cry and scream. it didn't help that the smart asses seated in front fueled the fears of most of the passengers by dropping snide remarks like "bilis! sasabog na yan! (hurry! it's about to blow!)."
actually, it won't blow. the bus ran on diesel. it's just that the fumes are bad for your health.
so we continued to ram our way out the bus and i walked away as quickly as possible, while wearing high heels. when i turned around, i saw a lady stumble and was quickly helped by the others.
